Questions about the operation of batteries and ALGcom DC UPS

Questions about the operation of batteries and ALGcom DC UPS

1. Is my battery good?

A lead acid battery has its voltage values from 10V at 0% charge to 13.8V at 100% charge. If your battery is below 10V, it needs to be recovered. The charger of the ALGcom DC UPS does not work with batteries below 10V, so the ideal is to use an automotive charger. First step, fully charge the battery, then leave it for 24 hours at rest. Measure the voltage, if it is below 12V, the battery needs to be thrown away.

2. Is my battery bank equalized?

Before installing the battery bank in the DC UPS, the ideal is to measure the voltage of each battery to see if the voltage is close, that is, if the batteries are equalized. To do this, measure the voltage of each battery, if any is below 10V, perform the procedure described in item 1. If the voltage between the batteries is more than 0.8V, connect all of them in parallel and leave for 24 hours until they all have the same voltage. It is recommended to equalize the battery bank in periodic maintenance every six months or a year.

3. The DC UPS does not switch to battery when AC is off, what is the problem?

Step 1. Check item 6 to make sure that the battery has been recognized; if the battery has not been recognized, check item 4.

Step 2. If it has been recognized and is switching off quickly, check the battery bank voltage with a multimeter, remove the AC and see if the voltage is, in any of the ranges, described in the table in item 4, step 3.

4. The DC UPS does not recognize my battery / bank, what is the problem?

Step 1. Check the polarity of the connector and make sure that the battery bank is not inverted;

Step 2. Check the fuse next to the battery connector;

Step 3. Check if the battery bank voltage is in any of the ranges below:

DC UPS output voltage Minimum battery bank voltage Maximum battery bank voltage
12V 10V 17V
24V 20V 30V
48V 42V 60V

5. When measuring the voltage at the battery connector, the indication is 0V, is that correct?

The ALGcom DC UPS charger does the process of measuring the battery bank first to see if the voltage is adequate and only then begins to inject current for charging, so in order to have voltage in the connector, the battery bank must be connected.

6. How do I know if the DC UPS recognized the batteries?

FN Line: The ALGcom DC UPS FN Line must turn on the “Battery charging” or “Battery discharging” LED. FX Line: The ALGcom DC UPS FX Line must turn on or flash the LED next to the battery bank connector;

7. What is the difference for VRLA charge and stationary battery?

The chargers of the ALGcom DC UPS have three stages: constant current, equalization and fluctuation. For the VRLA battery, the equalization stage does not take place.

8. How to start the DC UPS without AC?

Step 1. Connect the battery bank correctly;

Step 2. Press the Start Battery button.
